Many business owners view sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter as complete wastes of time, and I would agree, if they are not using it wisely.
The undeniable fact is Social Media sites are where their clients and customers are! With only 26 % of businesses using a Social Media Marketing plan and nearly all consumers (97%) searching online for businesses, well that just doesn’t match up!
Businesses can use Social Media smartly and effectively!
People need to hear about a business or product before they will make a purchase. Online that is accomplished when a business appears in the search engines, directories and social media networks where prospective customers look for information, the business type, product or service,
What I’m focusing on in this article is social media and how to use it to build a “tribe” of loyal followers and raving fans. Engaging with your “tribe” will establish you as an authority and influencer. How you engage is the difference between being a pest and being a trusted source.
If you are coming from the selling angle and just want to push your product or service that will soon get old and get you “un-friended” quickly! Blowing up twitter feeds with post after post of sales pitches will turn into noise and alienate you. If you are not getting un-followed it’s more than likely those people are not looking at their twitter account that often and they are not who you are trying to target anyway!
Using social media to post helpful, useful and personal messages is the key! Using the 6 key components I’ve outlining here will turn you into a trusted source and build your reputation as an influencer!
- Personal Touch: A few words that show you are a human and approachable
- Social Proof: A retweet or quote from one of your customers that proves you know your stuff!
- Obvious Offer: It’s always ok to sell something
- Something for Search: Use your Keywords not your pitch
- Value Added: Consider scratching the back of someone who might do the same for you
- The Question: People Love to give their opinions…give them the chance!
Ok so heres my tip…schedule a time once a week to plan out a weeks worth of postings using the 6 key components and put them into a “system” to post automatically throughout the day. You don’t know what time of day or what social media sites your prospects or clients will be using so hitting as many sites and times as possible.
